Systems of Inequalities
Learning Objectives
- Graph linear inequalities
- Find feasible region
- Solve systems of inequalities
Key Concepts
Linear Inequality
Like y = mx + b but with <, >, ≤, ≥
Feasible Region
The overlap area satisfying all inequalities
Theory
**Graphing a linear inequality:**
1. Graph the boundary line (solid for ≤/≥, dashed for > )
2. Test a point (usually origin) to determine which side to shade
3. Shade the solution region
**System of inequalities:** Graph all inequalities; the solution is the **overlap** of all shaded regions.
Examples
y > x and y < 4
Solution: Region above y = x and below y = 4
