Theory

A function is like a machine: input → process → output **Notation:** - f(x) = 2x + 3 means "the function f takes x and outputs 2x + 3" - f(5) = 2(5) + 3 = 13 **Vertical Line Test:** If any vertical line crosses a graph more than once, it's not a function.

Examples

If f(x) = x² - 4, find f(3)

Solution: f(3) = 3² - 4 = 9 - 4 = 5
