Volume of 3D Shapes
Learning Objectives
- Calculate volume of prisms, cylinders, cones, spheres
- Apply volume formulas
- Solve composite problems
Key Concepts
Volume
Amount of 3D space inside a solid, measured in cubic units
Base Area
Area of the base shape (B)
Theory
**Volume Formulas:**
- Rectangular prism: V = lwh
- Cylinder: V = πr²h
- Cone: V = ⅓πr²h
- Sphere: V = ⁴⁄₃πr³
- Pyramid: V = ⅓Bh
**Key relationship:** A cone is ⅓ of a cylinder with same base and height.
Examples
Cylinder with r = 3, h = 10
Solution: V = π(9)(10) = 90π ≈ 282.74
