🎯 What is TOEFL iBT?
The TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language - Internet Based Test) is the world's most widely accepted English-language test for academic purposes. It is developed and administered by ETS (Educational Testing Service) and accepted by more than 12,000 universities and institutions in over 160 countries.
The test measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. It evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills to perform academic tasks.
📋 Test Format (Enhanced July 2023)
The TOEFL iBT was updated in July 2023 to be shorter and more efficient while maintaining the same high-quality assessment.

📚 Test Sections in Detail
Reading Section

- 2 passages from university-level textbooks
- Each passage is about 700 words
- 10 questions per passage
- Question types: vocabulary, factual, inference, summary, insert text
Listening Section
▼Tests your ability to understand spoken English in academic settings.
- 3-4 academic lectures (3-5 minutes each)
- 2-3 conversations (about 3 minutes each)
- 6 questions per lecture, 5 questions per conversation
- NO replay allowed - listen carefully!
- Note-taking is encouraged
Speaking Section
▼Tests your ability to speak English in academic contexts.
- Task 1: Independent task - express your opinion
- Tasks 2-4: Integrated tasks - combine reading, listening, and speaking
- 15-30 seconds to prepare, 45-60 seconds to speak
- Scored on delivery, language use, and topic development
Writing Section
▼Tests your ability to write in English for academic purposes.
- Task 1: Integrated task - read, listen, write a summary (20 min)
- Task 2: Academic Discussion - join a classroom discussion (10 min)
- Scored on organization, development, grammar, and vocabulary
- Minimum word counts: 150 words (Task 1), 100 words (Task 2)
