Impedance & Admittance
Inside this lesson
- Define impedance Z as the ratio of phasor voltage to phasor current and explain why it is complex but not itself a phasor
- Derive and state the impedance of a resistor (Z = R), an inductor (Z = jωL), and a capacitor (Z = 1/(jωC))
- Express impedance in rectangular form Z = R + jX and polar form |Z|∠θ, identifying resistance R, reactance X, magnitude, and angle
- Define admittance Y = 1/Z = G + jB and compute G and B from R and X, recognizing that G ≠ 1/R in general
- Combine impedances in series and parallel using the same rules as resistances
